PETERSBURG, Ind. – The Pike County local officials from the Redevelopment Commission, Pike County, and Pike County Economic Development Corp. are collaborating with VS Engineering and EMCS, Inc. to complete a traffic impact analysis and form a subsequent traffic model after a convenient store/gas station requested support for a traffic study. The traffic analysis will analyze traffic along State Highway 61 from Illinois Street to County Road 300 N. From this analysis, a traffic model will then be developed that will consider future development and provide recommendations for roadway treatments along State Highway 61.

EMCS, Inc. will be a subconsultant to VS Engineering for this project with EMCS, Inc. being responsible for developing the existing and proposed traffic model and justifying recommended treatments. Pike County Council member and Redevelopment Commission member, Eric Smith, stated “We want development at the interchange and if this is an ongoing challenge for local developers we should help make it easier for development to occur. Once this is completed it will be a marketing tool for all the development properties from Illinois Street past the I-69 interchange to County Road 300 N.” As part of the project management the consultant will work with INDOT on safety standards and design for future development infrastructure.
