PIKE COUNTY, INDIANA – Petersburg Elementary School is expanding creative coursework by introducing artificial intelligence (AI) to our young learners in Pike County. This year, 5th grade students are using AI as part of their writing instruction, giving them early exposure to advanced tools they will encounter in the future.
Principal Melissa Pancake shared, “Our older students are able to practice writing using AI with mirrored effects, allowing teachers to see exactly how students interact with the tool. This helps teachers guide, support, and complement student work in meaningful ways. Petersburg Elementary is a great school where the staff uses advanced technology alongside engaging instruction. You can truly see that the staff cares about developing well-rounded students.”
AI, or artificial intelligence, is a tool used to support learning, reasoning, and problem-solving. As technology continues to move forward rapidly, PES is committed to providing students with a safe, structured space to explore AI and understand how it can be used responsibly. Because today’s elementary students are tomorrow’s innovators, teaching them about new technology now helps prepare them for real-world application and future careers.
