PIKE COUNTY, IN. – The Pike County Economic Development Corporation in collaboration with Pike County Commission, City of Petersburg, Pike County Community Foundation, and Indiana University Center for Rural Engagement are working together for construction of the new Buffalo Trace Trail. The trail will be 2.5 miles in length connecting the Hornady Park to the Prides Creek Park while connecting the new Meadows at Parkview Subdivision to the historic bridge, the Pike County Little League Park, to multiple medical offices and business corridor along Illinois Street.

The Buffalo Trace Trail received a $5 million grant through Lilly Gift VIII with the Pike County Community Foundation. Indiana University Center for Rural Engagement’s Executive Director, Denny Spinner stated: “This is a very special project, this trail will be a quality-of-life amenity and often communities forget about public art until after construction is complete and makes it very difficult to go back afterwards. This project is a special project and we are thrilled to be a part of it.” Indiana University Center for Rural Engagement is our partner to identify public art installations along the trail that represents Pike County. There is a QR code that anyone from the public is welcome to scan and provide input on what is important to them in our great community!
