WINSLOW, INDIANA – Quality-of-life is a critical piece to the heartbeat of any community.  The Town of Winslow has been working diligently with the Town Council, Winslow Park & Recreation Board, and local volunteers.  A small, mighty group of individuals have worked to make a lot of progress happen in such a short amount of time.  The Winslow Youth Park has made significant improvements to offer one of the first pickleball courts in Pike County, Little League softball/baseball, walking trail, and soon will be Middle School Soccer. Every community has its own flavor, and Winslow thrives in Eskimo purple and yellow colors representing the former Winslow High School and today’s proud Winslow Elementary School.

There has been a lot of positive growth in Winslow, where you can see the physical improvements. There have been several changes to the park and also the Pike County Library’s Winslow Branch has made improvements to their building and included a vibrant mural that represents pieces of history to the Town of Winslow and Eskimo Pride. The Pike County Health Department also relocated to Winslow and offering a wide array of services for the public.
Winslow is continuing their momentum and they are investing in a Winslow Parks & Recreation five-year plan. Indiana Region 15 Plan Commission will be administering the plan. There are current opportunities for the public to provide input through public surveys. Please scan the QR code to access the survey. They are also partnering with the University of Southern Indiana to commission a Feasibility Study for the Winslow Community Center. These two planning documents will be completed with the financial support of the Pike County Community Foundation. The Winslow Park Board President, Alexis Rusch stated the importance of these planning documents, “Although the Winslow Youth Park has made many improvements in the past five years, we still have many projects and improvements on our list. This plan will guide the development, management, and improvement of our park. The development phase will allow for public input, ensuring that the communities needs and wants are considered in park development. Having this plan in place will make us eligible for more state and federal grants as well as provide a clear vision and strategy to any potential funders.”
Rusch also explained the need for the Feasibility Study for the Winslow Community Center for a strategic approach to cashflow the cost of the facility. They have invested diverse grant funding sources to pay for maintenance of the building but there is still more that needs to be accomplished and then plan and promote activities that will meet the community needs. They are working with several volunteers to continue the progress and USI will be assisting in providing a roadmap for the long-term sustainability of the Community Center.
